I'm guessing that he is on a very good hourly rate!!
Recently I was searching for a local plumber to come and repair a roof leak. The water was dripping into a bucket in my living room and the plaster damage was growing. I did a local search via Google and found a local plumber who came out to access the situation. He provided me with a quote for $1200.00 to stop the leak by ordering some iron sheeting to sit on top of the existing roof. I was expecting that it would cost up to $500 for him to spend a few hours repairing the leak but I wasn't expecting a quote for $1200 !
When I questioned the price, I was told that the iron sheeting alone cost around $800 (A few weeks later I was advised by a new friend who happened to be a plumber that the iron would have cost an absolute maximum of $300). Anyway, being put on the spot and unfamiliar with tradesmen prices and knowing that the leaking room was quite urgent, I agreed to accept the quote. The plumber ordered the steel and came back 3 days later and had the job completed within 2 and a half hours. I'm guessing that he is on a very good hourly rate!! Well I am pleased to say that even after some heavy down-pours, the roof no longer leaks. Now I just need to get someone in to replace the water damaged plaster inside.
Is That Price Reasonable?: When getting quotes from Tradesmen, consultants and contractors, some of them will quote unreasonably high if they can afford to lose the job. If they have a lot of work on and they can afford to lose the job, they often will quote excessive prices so that if they get the job they are laughing and if they don't get the job they don't care.

No one likes getting ripped off.
